For every child, a chance.
These are the hidden faces of America's homeless children. They live in abandoned cars, under bridges, in crowded shelters--usually with their mothers, and a sibling or two.
Each year, more than 1.3 million children are homeless, and their numbers are growing. They are hungry and sick twice as often as other children. They have difficulty in school and by age 8, one in three has major mental health problems.
In a country with immense resources, even a single homeless child is a national disgrace.
Since 1988, The National Center on Family Homelessness has led the fight to give every child a chance by providing communities with the tools they need to end this tragedy. |
