Student Coalition Webinar:Investigating Aging, the Aged, and Individuals Living with Serious Illness Experiencing Unsheltered Homelessness Research WorkgroupJoin the Street Medicine Institute Student Coalition for a conversation with Dr. Alexis Kogan from the USC Street Medicine Team. Unsheltered older adults experiencing homelessness constitute the fastest-growing segment of the unhoused population in the United States. Research shows that older adults experiencing homelessness are significantly impacted by chronic health conditions and accelerated aging, yet little is known about the unique considerations involved in providing care and appropriate support for them. This presentation will share findings from a study exploring the experiences of aging and managing serious illness among people experiencing unsheltered homelessness, as well as the perspectives of the street medicine team members who care for them. The study used qualitative, semi-structured, in-depth interviews with both street medicine clinicians and older adult patients receiving street medicine services in Los Angeles. The findings highlight several actionable strategies with implications for both policy and clinical practice to better meet the needs of unsheltered older adults experiencing homelessness. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and contribute insights from their own experiences in street medicine and caring for older adults experiencing homelessness. Register Here |
